How can a replay of Super Bowl XLII not excite fans? Anyone who watched that game remembers the implications. The New England Patriots were 18-0, featuring the best offense in NFL history and Tom Brady was there pariah, having thrown 50 touchdown passes. Eli Manning and the New York Giants arrived in the game through a string of eleven-straight improbable road wins, including three in the playoffs. People thought of Manning as a mere foil to Brady's greatness at that point, but the world stood stunned as the little brother to Peyton Manning engineered the impossible: a 17-14 upset of the perfect team with the perfect quarterback.
So why oh why is the press, especially ESPN, still finding ways to slide in Tim Tebow stories? A major reason is how the game sets up. These Patriots and Giants, arguably, don't have the same draw as back in 2007. The Giants were 9-7 when they entered the playoffs while the Patriots rode a ridiculous streak of good fortune to a 13-3 record and home field advantage. The truly disgusting part is many people think the team that lost four more games will win, because the Giants haven't lost to the Patriots in four years and beat them in Foxborough earlier this season. The football public knows the story, and it doesn't have true beat-the-odds tale like before. Both teams are more lucky than good.

Blaming Tebow for the media still focusing on him weeks after he stopped playing football is unfair. A number of other people deserve some blame. One major culprit is commentator Skip Bayless. Renowned for his loud mouth antics and blunt honesty, Bayless has become a prominent Tim Tebow disciple, professing his love for the Denver Broncos quarterback and the underdog story he brings. Joining him are the girlfriend rumors, featuring skiing champion Lindsey Vonn and reality TV queen Kim Kardashian. While Tebow keeps his mind clear and focused on football, these two ex-wives quietly search for new men, and his natural charisma, spiritual guidance and kind heart make him very eligible. The juicy plot twists are endless and Tebowmania reaps the rewards.
The New York Giants and New England Patriots entered Super Bowl XLVI because of their quarterbacks. Tom Brady hopes for his fourth ring and a measure of revenge against Eli Manning who can finally eclipse his older brother with a second title. The story is there, but so is Tim Tebow, and the country together with Kim Kardashian, Lindsey Vonn, and Skip Bayless make it no contest.
