A penny for your thoughts
The Joe Paterno saga has finally ended and people seem unsure how to react to his death. It is simple, his legacy is twofold. The football coach legacy should be set in stone, JoePa is the greatest coach of all time and that should not change. His legacy as a human being will not be judged by victories but what he did to help make this world a better (or worse) place for others. He knew that little boys were being sexually assaulted and did nothing to stop it. Excuses are just that, excuses. The mental hardship that these boys have had to endure because of a pedophile was only lengthened because of the cowardice of many involved. I will not question what JoePa did for college football but will question how he was able to look a man in the face knowing what he did to children. Joe Paterno was a great coach, but the jury is still out if he was a great man.
Is Eli Manning a better Quarterback than his older brother? Many would laugh at that thought but the simple fact is he will be going for his second Super Bowl title and has a better playoff win percentage than #18. His ability to take a beating and beat a defense that the great Aaron Rodgers couldn’t figure out tells me he deserves at least a look at being a top five QB. Peyton Manning is a great regular season QB, but when it all comes down to it, he is not been as clutch as Eli(He is no Tebow).
The Patriots have done it again, and they can give a big thank you to Billy Cundiff for the trip to Indy in two weeks. The one person who has to be most upset is Joe Flacco. He actually showed up in a playoff game and gets beat because the smallest guy on the team can’t do his one job. Before I sat down to write this column, I looked up Tom Brady’s name in the dictionary and it told me to see the word “clutch” for a description. Not only is the guy one game from winning yet another Super Bowl, he also gets to go home to Gisele Bündchen. He understands how to win and deserves to go down as one of the greatest of all time.
Things might get a lot faster in Tampa if the rumors of Chip Kelly coming to coach the Buccaneers are true. Why leave one of the best colleges in the country (and a recruiting hotspot) for TB? This move would make Chip some more dough, but I think he would get crunched in to little bits and who wants to reach deep in the bag for smashed up chip(Horrible pun, but I will give myself a point for trying).
UFC on FOX 2 will be coming to Chicago this weekend and for anyone reading this(anyone?...mom?) I highly suggest watching the fights this week for the trash talking skills of Chael Sonnen. YouTube Sonnen’s name and enjoy. Chael makes Chad Ocho-Cinco look quiet, and that is not an easy task.
That is it for my first column. I hoped it would be funnier, but I wrote it so it failed faster than a 30 yard Tebow bomb(don’t strike me down Jesus).
