The Show Me State Got Shown the Door
Just as the Brewers did to the Cardinals, the Mustangs took care of their guests from Missouri by defeating the Kansas Command 54-34 in front of very enthusiastic and appreciative crowd at the Bradley Center Saturday evening.
The night belonged to both Dwayne Eley Jr. and the defense of the Mustangs. Eley Jr. had one of those nights when an athlete will tell you they were in the zone. He was responsible for 28 of Milwaukee’s 54 points while accumulating 127 yards in receiving. The defense also came up big coming up with 4 sacks of Command quarterback JJ Raterink, a key interception before half by Andre Jones, and a couple of crucial 4th down stops which put the ball back into the hands of the offense. No stop more crucial than with 7 minutes left in the contest, Rich Ranglin, a 6’3 315 pound offensive lineman, lined up at fullback for Kansas City and was stuffed by the interior of the Milwaukee defense on 4th and 1.
The Mustangs also got touchdowns from Marcus Benson and RJ Archer, and two field-goals by Eric Lindholm. The scoring from the Mustangs was capped as time ran out when Mustang defensive back Antonio Malone intercepted JJ Raternik and went coast to coast for the pick 6. The Kansas Command was paced by Steven Savoy’s 3 touchdowns.
“We took advantage of the match-ups we had” Eley explained in route to his first ever four touchdown performance at any level of football. Coach Landsee summed it up this way with regards to the play of Eley and quarterback RJ Arcer; “They played the way they are capable of playing.” Tonight’s win brings the Mustangs to 4-8 on the year as they head on the road. “Now we have to clear our minds and get ready for Jacksonville” the coach explained. A tough road task, but one that can be accomplished if they take care of business with the same passion and detail they did this evening.
