2012 Baltimore Orioles Playoff Schedule Begins With Wild Card Game
The 2012 Baltimore Orioles playoff schedule is ready, but it isn't exactly what the team or its fans were hoping for heading into the final week of the regular season
. Baltimore had a chance to catch the New York Yankees and win the American League East title, but their loss on Wednesday (October 3) brought that goal to an end.
Baltimore finishes second place in the AL East
and as the second wild card team in the AL. This means that they will travel to play the Texas Rangers in the wild card game on Friday (October 5). Texas finishes the year one game better than Baltimore in the standings, meaning they get to host the final game.
The winner of the wild card game will advance to the ALDS and play the No. 1 seed in the 2012 AL Playoffs. That team is now the Yankees, as New York finished off their season by beating the Boston Red Sox
. Game 1 of that series will take place in the home park of the wild card winner, with it set to take place on Sunday (October 7).
Game 2 of the ALDS will also take place in either Baltimore or Texas on October 8, with the teams then heading to New York for Games 3-5 on October 10-12. It's a tough realization that Baltimore may have to face the Yankees right away, but it seems like a really good match-up on paper.
Do you think that the 2012 Baltimore Orioles
playoff schedule gives the team a good shot to make it to the World Series? Are the New York Yankees really the best team in the American League this year?
